NOTICE FOR THE AWARD OF RESEARCH GRANTS
A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 Research Grant (RG) under the project EPIC – Pedagogical Excellence and Innovation in Co-Creation within the investment Impulso Mais Digital (RE-C06-i07) of the Recovery and Resilience Program, under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area: Communication Science and Technology, Information Technology Engineering, Digital Marketing, Management or similar.
2. Funding Source: Next Generation EU, within the scope of EPIC – Pedagogical Excellence and Innovation in Co-Creation, which fits into the Impulso Mais Digital investment (RE-C06-i07) of the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan.
3. Admission Requirements: Students enrolled in a Master in web communication and technology, information technology engineering, digital marketing, management or similar; or students with a bachelor degree in multimedia and communication technology, information technology engineering, digital marketing, management or similar, enrolled in the advanced scientific research non-degree granting courses integrated in the educative project of the University of Aveiro, with a minimum of 40 ECTS.
Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in research projects, professional or academic experience of web programming (HTML, CSS, bootstrap, PHP) and use of tools like Drupal, with knowledge or experience of use and management of digital communication tools (e-mail marketing, social media, websites), and fluent in both Portuguese and English languages. Other competences to be valued: high degree of autonomy, strong motivation for teamwork, precision, creativity, and excellent writing skills and capacity to present research results.
The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in a master's degree or in an advanced scientific research non-degree granting course with a minimum of 40 ECTS.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.
4. Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no.1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro.
5. Work plan: The work plan for the development of EPIC DXP will be structured in progressive phases, starting with the detailed conceptualization of the platform and the review and improvement of the concept document. In this initial phase, the research fellow will work closely with the EPIC teams and in accordance with the provided guidelines, to clarify requirements, validate user flows, and ensure coherence between the strategic objectives and the platform's functionalities. This stage will include defining the system architecture, structuring the modules, and detailing the interactions between users and functionalities.
In addition to validating the concept document, a development phase will begin to improve the technological infrastructure, particularly the CMS layer for content management and user interaction. This includes, among other components, the homepage, recommendation system, training and resource catalogue, as well as communication and segmentation features. In parallel, the back-office will be developed to manage training activities, registrations, and certifications.
The research fellow will also explore integration possibilities with LMS systems, ensuring interoperability between platforms for managing learning paths, monitoring educators, and validating certifications. Additionally, the fellow will analyze and potentially implement advanced features such as an individual pedagogical development profile, dashboards with participation indicators, and automation of administrative processes. The development process will follow an iterative and collaborative approach, allowing for continuous testing and adjustment cycles to ensure the platform effectively meets the needs of institutions and educators.
The work plan includes the following tasks:
* T1: Definition of the system architecture, module structuring, and detailed specification of user-functionality interactions;
* T2: Development and improvement of the technological infrastructure, both in terms of the user interface and the back-office, ensuring interoperability across platforms and potential integration with LMS systems;
* T3: Analysis and possible implementation of advanced features, such as the individual pedagogical development profile, dashboards with participation indicators, and administrative process automation;
* T4: Participation in meetings and other events related to requirements gathering, preparation and implementation of actions for testing and continuous improvement of the developed solutions;
* T5: Preparation of reports, presentations, and other dissemination materials focusing on the results obtained.
6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
7. Workplace: The work will be carried out in ISCA-UA under the scientific supervision of Professor Irina Adriana Saur Amaral.
8. Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 6 months, starting foreseeably in May 2025, possibly renewable for more 6 months up to the maximum funding approved, and may under no circumstances exceed the limits defined in the n.º 5 and 6 of the Article 9 of the Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th (Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro).
9. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to € 1.040,98, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan.
10. Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curriculum vitae assessment (50%) and interview (50%).
The applications that do not comply with the admission criteria or that the jury intends that do not reunite the minimum conditions to execute the work plan, will be excluded in the phase of curriculum vitae assessment. The jury may decide not to select any applicant, if they understand that none of the applicants have the required profile.
11. Composition of the Selection Jury: The jury responsible for the selection will consist of the following members:

12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications: The call is open from April 7th to April 24th 2025, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.
Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents:
* Motivation letter indicating the competence and experience for the work to be done;
* Certificate of academic qualifications and other related documents;
* Proof of enrollment in the Master program or declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in a Master degree or in an advanced scientific research non-degree granting course with a minimum of 40 ECTS.
* Portfolio of projects developed in the area of the application, if any;
* Other supporting documents deemed relevant.
Applicants shall also indicate the e-mail address to which they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure.
13. Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.
14. Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until September 15th, 2025 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
