Junior Sommelier Opportunity at Vila Joya
We are seeking a personable Junior Sommelier to join our team at the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Vila Joya. As a Junior Sommelier, you will be an integral part of our service team, curating memorable dining experiences for our guests.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support senior sommeliers in delivering exceptional wine service
* Assist with decanting and pouring wines during service
* Ensure flawless wine service, proper serving temperatures, and glassware presentation
* Provide basic wine recommendations to guests under the guidance of a senior sommelier
* Engage in friendly and professional conversations about wine selections and pairings
* Maintain a strong understanding of the restaurant's wine list and how it complements the menu
* Support overall service excellence, stepping in as needed to maintain high standards
Your Profile:
* Experience in fine dining and luxury hospitality preferred
* Knowledge of wine service techniques, including decanting and glassware selection
* Basic understanding of wine regions, varietals, and winemaking processes
* 1–2 years of experience in a sommelier or service-related role in fine dining establishments
* Exposure to Michelin-starred or high-end restaurant environments is a plus but not mandatory
* Ideal candidate holds an introductory-level wine certification
* Fluent in at least 2 out of 3 languages: Portuguese, German, and English (additional languages are a plus)
* Passion for wine and food pairing, with a desire to continuously expand knowledge and expertise
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage guests and build rapport
* Detail-oriented approach to wine service, with a focus on delivering exceptional experiences
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
* Ability to collaborate closely with senior sommeliers, kitchen team, and service staff
* Team-player attitude with a focus on contributing to a harmonious service environment
