Offer DescriptionCALL FOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP The University of Coimbra opens a call for one research fellowship in the framework of the project "REBORN - Remodelling of the Infarcted Heart: Piezoelectric Multifunctional Patch Enabling the Sequential Release of Therapeutic Factors" (reference: GA 101091852, financed by the European Commission) under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Biotechnology, biomedical engineering, pharmacy, biochemistry and similar areas.
Skills/Qualifications/Admission requirements: Holders of a Master's degree in biotechnology, biomedical engineering, pharmacy, biochemistry and similar areas enrolled in a doctoral program or a course not conferring an academic degree. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate skills in animal experimentation, including experience in research projects using animal experimentation and generating animal models of disease. Candidates should also demonstrate skills in cell culture and characterization.
Work plan/Objectives: The project REBORN aims to provide a multifunctional, smart cardiac patch that, when translated to the clinic, is expected to significantly prevent heart failure in patients surviving an acute MI, reducing mortality and enhancing their quality of life.
The candidate will contribute to:
The coordination of the necessary logistics of reproduction and gestation of animals in alignment with the timelines and needs of the REBORN project;The isolation and characterisation of cardiomyocytes from mice and rats to test pharmacological formulations;The generation of cardiac slices to test pharmacological formulations;The evaluation of pharmacological formulations in immune cells from the partners of the REBORN project.Regime: The attribution of the fellowship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal labour nature, and the fellowship is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime.
Location: UC - Biotech at the University of Coimbra. Duration: Six (6) months.
Renewal: Eventually renewable, subject to compliance with Article 15 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology and the end date of the research project.

Financial conditions: The amount of the fellowship is €1199,64 corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table, plus social security and personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Selection methods: Curriculum evaluation (60%) and interview (40%).
Selection criteria: The ranking of the curricular assessment will be based on the following criteria:
Adequacy of the candidate's profile to the work plan to be developed - (60%);Academic background - (40%).Formalization of application: Applications must be formalized by sending: (a) Letter of Application/Motivation; (b) Curriculum Vitae; (c) Certificate of Qualifications; (d) Proof of enrolment in a PhD program or in a Non-Conferring Course (only for contractualization) and other elements considered relevant; (e) References.
