Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly skilled Data Scientist to lead the development and application of bioinformatic methods for our RNA-based diagnostic platforms. This role is central to advancing precision oncology, requiring a combination of analytical expertise, creativity, and a passion for innovation.
As part of our growing team, you will design cutting-edge bioinformatic tools, analyse diverse datasets, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive impactful results in cancer research and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and implement advanced bioinformatic methods for RNA-based diagnostics, using rigorous mathematical and computational approaches.
2. Analyse real-time PCR and NGS datasets with state-of-the-art and in-house bioinformatic tools and pipelines.
3. Maintain and optimise scalable AWS infrastructure for computational and storage needs.
4. Perform integrative analyses of clinical, genomic, and transcriptomic data to identify biomarkers for targeted therapies.
5. Build and deploy machine learning models for predictive analytics and biological relevance.
6. Automate data acquisition and processing pipelines to enhance scalability and efficiency.
7. Collaborate closely with laboratory scientists, clinical researchers, and data engineers to ensure alignment between data outputs and organisational objectives.
8. Stay at the forefront of cancer genomics research, contributing to publications in leading scientific journals.
9. Communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
10. Provide expertise on statistical methodologies for biomarker data analysis.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
2. At least 3 years of experience in bioinformatics or related data science roles.
3. Proficiency in statistical programming (e.g., R, Python) and analysing high-dimensional datasets.
4. Familiarity with NGS workflows, RNA-Seq, and transcriptomic analysis.
5. Strong coding skills with clean, efficient, and well-documented programming practices.
6. Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).
7. Knowledge of machine learning methods, predictive analytics, and data visualisation.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
9. Passion for improving patient outcomes through cutting-edge biomedical research.
10. Fluent in English, with outstanding communication skills.

Important Information

Additionally, you should be based within a reasonable distance of Faro and be able to attend our HQ at the University of Algarve at least three days per week.
