We are seeking an experienced professional with an in-depth understanding of IFRS 9 – Financial Instruments – to join our dynamic team. This role will be responsible for the application of IFRS 9, including classification and measurement of financial assets and liabilities, as well as the application of hedge accounting. This role requires strong analytical skills, as well as the ability to collaborate across various functions including Treasury, Financial Risk Management and R2R.
What to Expect:
1. Hedge Accounting Application: Apply IFRS 9 hedge accounting principles to various hedging activities (fair value hedge and cash flow hedge). Ensure that hedge relationships are documented and maintained in compliance with the standard.
2. Hedge Effectiveness Testing: Conduct regular assessments of hedge effectiveness. Ensure hedges meet the criteria for effectiveness under IFRS 9, with a focus on ensuring that hedging strategies are aligned with the company’s risk management objectives.
3. Hedge Designation and Documentation: Draft and maintain hedge documentation in accordance with IFRS 9 standards, clearly defining the hedging relationships, the hedged items, the hedging instruments, and the risk management strategy. Ensure that hedge documentation is reviewed and updated as required.
4. Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial reports related to hedge accounting, including the treatment of hedging instruments and hedged items in the financial statements.
5. Derivative Valuation and Accounting: Oversee the valuation of derivatives. Work with Treasury and Risk teams to ensure accurate valuations and risk assessments.
6. Risk Management Collaboration: Work closely with risk management and treasury teams to identify and analyse financial risks (e.g., interest rate, currency, commodity price risks).
7. Audit and Compliance Support: Support internal and external audits associated with financial instruments and hedge accounting.
Skills and Essentials:
1. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting, with a strong focus on IFRS 9 hedge accounting, derivatives, and risk management. Experience working within a financial institution, corporate treasury, or with hedge accounting tools/software is highly desirable.
2. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in understanding of IFRS 9 with specific expertise in financial instruments, derivatives and hedge accounting and its application.
3. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to explain complex hedge accounting concepts and issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
4. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, or FRM (Financial Risk Manager) are a plus.
