INEGI - Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial is a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO), focused on research and technology-based innovation activities, technology transfer, consulting, and technological services, oriented to the development of industry and economy in general. INEGI is opening a call for applications for a Researcher, in the scope of the ERC Inelastic project "Linking the scales towards non-conventional polymer composite structures" through the Commission of the European Communities Funds.
Junior Researcher (m/f/d)
Brief Description:
The reduction of the environmental footprint of aviation relies on the development and fast deployment of lighter and more efficient polymer composite structures; however, the current configurations of composite aerospace structures result in a highly constrained design space. Additionally, the limitations of the state-of-the-art analysis methods result in overly conservative designs and in time-consuming certification methodologies. As a result, composite laminates have only contributed to modest weight savings in aircraft structures. Based on these observations, the main objective of the project is to unleash the full potential of composite systems to yield more efficient aerospace composite structures. This project will enable the development of new, non-conventional micro-structures and of new laminate configurations for composite aerostructures. It is expected that the discontinuity between material design and structural design will be removed, opening new avenues for concurrent optimization of composite materials and structures.
What is the challenge?
Development, validation and verification of computational models for the prediction of inelastic deformation and fracture of polymer composites at different length scales.
Minimum Requirements
* PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical /Aerospace Engineering or equivalent;
* Strong background on computational mechanics, multi-scale analysis, constitutive modelling for polymer and polymer composites, optimization and inverse identification of material properties;
* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
* Excellent team management and leadership abilities.
* Proficiency in English, written and spoken.
