Founded in 2020, Nutrition from Water (NXW) is a nutrition technology company enabling net positive, affordable, and natural nutrition for all.
We are exploring the Pacific Ocean's largest microalgae strain library, having realized NXW technology can feed our planet by providing affordable and complete nutrition from water.
As a team of food executives, marine biologists, fermentation experts, food scientists, and category builders, we are growing a new global category that unlocks affordable and complete nutrition (strains, ingredients, and applications) that plug into existing food supply chains.
NXW cannot do this alone, we’re partnering to co-develop and scale new nutrition solutions with global companies, governments, and institutions committed to delivering net positive, affordable, and natural nutrition for all. And we're setting up our global HQ from Portugal Q1 2025 and hiring a team to help enable our growth plans.
Role Purpose
The Business Manager / Financial Controller will play a critical role in supporting and managing a wide range of administrative and financial functions across NXW from Portugal.
Acting as a jack of all trades and pseudo Chief of Staff to the CEO, this role ensures seamless operations across accounts, payroll, HR, document drafting, and event support. Additionally, the Business Manager / Financial Controller will provide administrative support for capital raising activities and play an active role in non-dilutive funding and grant writing, including application preparation, information gathering, and contribution to the writing process.
With collaboration across all areas of the business and high potential for professional development, this role offers significant growth opportunities. Proficiency in both Microsoft and Google platforms is essential, and given NXW’s establishment in Portugal with a New Zealand-based team, a Portuguese candidate is highly desirable.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Accounts and Finance
* Manage daily financial operations, including bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll processing.
* Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities in collaboration with the CEO.
* Support capital raising activities by populating investor pipeline documents, conducting research, and scheduling meetings.
* Actively contribute to non-dilutive funding and grant writing, preparing applications, gathering necessary information, and contributing to writing tasks.
2. Human Resources and Administration
* Manage HR tasks, including onboarding, offboarding, and maintaining personnel records.
* Support recruitment processes, job postings, and candidate communication.
* Oversee employee benefits administration and ensure compliance with local employment regulations.
* Coordinate employee training and onboarding programs to enhance the employee experience.
3. Document Drafting and Office Support
* Draft, proofread, and organize company documentation, including reports, contracts, and internal communications.
* Organize travel logistics, event planning, and team meetings to support business operations.
* Ensure smooth office operations by managing supplies and maintaining office organization.
4. Cross-Functional Support
* Assist with sales and marketing activities, preparing presentations and materials for internal and external stakeholders.
* Collaborate across all departments to ensure efficient administrative support and smooth communication.
5. Event and Travel Coordination
* Plan and coordinate company events, meetings, and conferences, ensuring all logistics are managed effectively.
* Arrange travel for team members, including international and domestic trips, to facilitate company activities.
