Main research field: Agrarian Sciences – agrarian and food biotechnology, biological sciences.
Admission requirements: The prospective candidates must hold a Master degree in the area of Chemical/Biochemical/Biological Sciences or related and enrollment in a doctoral program in the area of Food Science or Food Technology or Biotechnology or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution. Candidates should have knowledge and experience in the field of Food Science and Technology and, specifically, knowledge and experience in immunochemical techniques (ELISA, immunoblotting, SDS-PAGE), characterization of food allergens and in vitro digestibility assays. Additionally, the candidate must have knowledge and experience in molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, sequencing and use of bioinformatics tools). Candidate must have good knowledge of spoken and written English, show enthusiasm for scientific research, good organizational skills, team spirit, autonomy, critical thinking, interest in integrating multidisciplinary teams and be immediately available.
Workplan: The fellowship holder must carry out experimental work in the scope of the development of strategies for evaluation and modulation/mitigation of the allergenicity of processed foods. The activities will consist of the preparation of model foods, protein analysis by immunochemical methods, enzymatic hydrolysis and cross-linking assays, in vitro digestibility assays and development of molecular biology techniques for the detection of potentially allergenic food species.
Applicable legislation: The grant is awarded under the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of August 18th, and updated by Law decree DL 123/2019, of August 28th, and the Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
