Responsibilities: Your role:
An Occupational Safety Hygienist specializes in identifying risks in the workplace and advises organizations on how to avoid and resolve them. Working in a variety of locations, including building sites, offices, and factories, they promote responsible practice and raise awareness of health and safety issues. Region 2 is divided into Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Malaysia, and Guyana. You will play a key role in promoting and embedding strong Occupational Health and Safety leadership, positive behavior, and culture amongst Region 2.
Main tasks: Identify, assess, and find solutions to control workplace health hazards and thereby manage any associated risk to health. These may be chemical, physical, biological, or ergonomic and can be present in the workplace in many forms;Identify hazardous agents in the workplace;Evaluate exposure to those hazardous agents to determine the level of risk;Apply engineering controls to reduce the risk when necessary, such as local exhaust ventilation;Use administrative measures to further reduce risk, such as developing a procedure on how to operate machinery safely or signs to warn people of a hazard;Conduct ergonomic assessments onshore and offshore, as well as adapting the areas and equipment to improve ergonomics at work;Update and disseminate ergonomic catalog;Implement a Risk Management program (chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic);Conduct radiologic surveys and manage action trackers, as well as licenses;Manage Benzene and Asbestos programs and surveys, as well as action trackers;Implement and manage VOC and heat stress procedures, building KPIs and surveys;Implement respiratory programs and fit tests;Organize and control results from fit tests;Implement manual handling programs;Define and manage PPE: ASEL update, certificate control, PPE Matrix, training, and records;Select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce risk further if still required;Track actions from hygiene programs;Issue KPIs regarding program adherence and actions implemented;Conduct training and awareness around all Region 2 fleet;Lead Occupational Safety and Hygiene campaigns;Regularly embark on inspections and awareness of offshore teams;Manage and control legal requirements. In addition to the role above, you might also be asked to support Region 2 or the department with the following activities: Provide support to Regional HSSE Manager and unit HSSE Engineers as required;Coordinate and attend client Occupational Safety and Hygiene audits carried out on board and at the Shore Base;Coordinate and attend internal ISM/ISO45001/ISO14001 audits carried out on board and at the Shore Base. Leadership and Culture: Drive leadership & culture improvement in Region 2 by supporting the Regional HSSE Manager in development and delivery;Share best practices and develop initiatives to learn from other unit operations – particularly from Brazilian units;Promote and develop SBM Safety Culture within the region;Provide mentoring/coaching to the onshore local HSSE departments. Occupational Safety and Hygiene campaigns & programs: Support the deployment of Occupational Safety and Hygiene programs and initiatives within the region in alignment with onshore HSSE engineers (where applicable);Develop and deliver regional stand-downs with offshore and onshore leadership teams as appropriate;Develop and roll out regional campaigns/programs to meet HSSE/Occupational Safety KPI targets;Improve learning from events in Region 2 (sharing of incident alerts, stand-downs, etc.). Occupational Safety and Hygiene performance monitoring: Monitor progress of each Region 2 area (EG, Guyana, Angola, Asia) with their annual HSSE plans and report progress through dashboards;Participate in regular HSSE meetings with local HSSE engineers;Monitor effective performance against predefined HSSE/Occupational Safety KPIs;Develop solutions to meet targets. Assurance activities: Participate or lead internal or client audits as required (OIA, ISM DOC, ISM SMC, etc.);Monitor audit findings and track closure;Monitor execution of audits within the region;Support Region 2 pre-qualification and qualification audits for local vendors. Competencies: If you have:
Engineering Degree or Master's in Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science;At least 5 years' experience in the Energy Sector (preferably Oil and Gas Operations in FPSO) or similar industry (chemical);Strong technical/site experience or HSSE management experience;NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent Management System Lead Auditor (ISO 45001/ISO 14001);Valid offshore medical certificate, BOSIET/HUET required for the position.
