ROLE SUMMARY:

As an Operations/Business Manager, you will oversee and optimize the day-to-day operations of one of our premium international schools in Lisbon. This is an opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams, enhance operational efficiency, and create a world-class learning environment.
We are looking for a strategic, hands-on leader with experience either in a similar role within the education sector or managing operations in another service-driven environment—ideally in hospitality, startups, or comparable businesses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations & Facilities Management
* Supervise and lead all operational teams and external providers, including maintenance, IT, cleaning, catering, school assistants, and receptionists.
* Implement a culture of continuous improvement, optimizing efficiency in all school operations.
* Oversee supplier and contract management, ensuring service quality and cost-effectiveness.
* Manage the school’s facilities, ensuring a safe, inspiring, and high-functioning learning environment.
Health & Safety
* Ensure that safety and compliance policies are up to date and adhered to by all staff.
* Lead fire safety training and risk management strategies.
* Keep school leadership informed on all health & safety, building, and operational matters.
Auxiliary & Revenue-Generating Services
* Supervise and enhance catering, coffee shop, after-school, and transportation services.
* Oversee relationships with external vendors, ensuring service quality.
* Ensure all external providers comply with safeguarding policies.
Finance & Budget Oversight (where applicable)
* Collaborate with the Regional CFO, supporting budgeting and forecasting.
* Oversee cost control, budget tracking, and procurement validation.
* Ensure the school’s financial operations run smoothly, including bad debt management.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
* Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
* Ideally, previous experience in a similar role within the education sector.
* Alternatively, strong experience running operations or managing a business in hospitality, startups, or other service-driven environments.
* Proven leadership skills, managing diverse teams and external providers.
* Hands-on, problem-solving approach with a focus on efficiency and continuous improvement.
* Ability to analyze financials, manage budgets, and negotiate supplier contracts.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
