Job Description
The Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra is seeking a research assistant for the project GreenPaths: European Knowledge Hub On Just Transition Pathways.
About the Project
GreenPaths aims to develop and adopt more coherent and effective policy strategies and instruments, furthering positive outcomes and reducing negative impacts on environmental sustainability and social well-being. The project focuses on the European Green Deal, the Fit for 55 package, and actions funded by the Just Transition Fund and the European Social Fund+.
Key Objectives
* Mapping and explaining links between policies, environmental sustainability, and social well-being
* Identifying and assessing indicators and tools to analyze interactions between climate interdependencies, environmental sustainability, and social well-being
* Developing systemic, in-depth, and innovative understandings of green transition policies and approaches vis-à-vis social impacts and trade-offs
* Offering new insights into the relevance and significance of institutional, regulatory, and legal frameworks affecting the green transitions
* Producing policy recommendations for desirable changes in European and national policies through a multi-stakeholder backcasting approach and the participatory design of lighthouse projects
Responsibilities
* Analyzing data related to the green transition using specialized software
* Critical discourse analysis of public policies, demonstrating knowledge of EU and Portuguese political and cultural context
* Daily management support for GreenPaths project coordination
* Research support for GreenPaths case studies related to the social impacts of green transition policy
* Participating in meetings and organizing project events and other dissemination activities implemented by the project
* Collaborating in the development and publication of project results, including reports, policy briefs, scientific articles, and discussion papers
Eligibility Criteria
* Holding a master's degree in Social Sciences
* Training and experience in critical discourse analysis, using specialized software, and capacity to write and speak well in English and Portuguese
* Writing skills and letter of intent/motivation
* Proficiency in written and oral English and Portuguese
* Proven research interest in the broader topic of the project
Selection Process
Applicants will be selected based on their curricular evaluation. In case of equivalent curricular evaluations, the best-positioned applicants will be short-listed for an interview to assess their potential in integrating the project's scientific dynamic and their motivation in pursuing studies related to the project's thematic areas.
