Offer Description
A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 (one) Research Grant (RG) in the scope of R&D project “HydroForMX - Hydrogen production via formic acid decomposition using MXenes”, 2023.12765.PEX, from CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area: Chemistry
2. Funding Source: Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P./MCTES, through national funds (PIDDAC)
3. Admission Requirements: Masters in Science or Engineering disciplines, with a preference for the areas of Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science, demonstrating previous experience in molecular simulation, and who show aptitude to perform research in the areas of computational materials and catalysis, enrolled in a non-degree course, integrated into the educational project of a Higher Education Institution.
NOTE: In the application, the scholarship holder must indicate the course designation, date of enrollment, and duration. Only courses related to the area of the held degree and with a duration consistent with the scholarship duration will be considered.
The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in an integrated master's degree, master's or doctoral program or in a course that does not confer an academic degree.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th.
5. Work plan: The grantee will be working closely with a team focused on the discovery of novel materials for catalytic applications through computer-driven approaches. The goals of the grant are to employ computer simulation techniques, based on Density-Functional Theory (DFT), to study titanium carbide-based materials with potential for catalytic applications, in particular to:
1. study the interaction of few-atom particles of transition metal elements with MXene surfaces;
2. analyse the interaction of MXenes with formic acid molecules;
3. calculate the dissociation mechanism of acid formic molecules, catalysed by MXenes, and the subsequent formation and desorption of hydrogen.
Funds are available for attending conferences and for networking activities.
6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Grant Holder, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th; Regulation no. 950/2019, of November 29th; Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th.
7. Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials / Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Doctor José D. Gouveia and Doctor José R. B. Gomes.
8. Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 6 (six) months, starting in March of 2025, and may be renewed for an additional period of 6 (six) months.
10. Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curriculum vitae assessment (80%) and interview (20%). Only candidates with a total score greater than or equal to 50% in the sum of criteria will be interviewed.
Doctor Paula Ferreira (Alternate Member) and Doctor Filipe Figueiredo (Alternate Member).
Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents:
1. Application Letter;
2. Curriculum Vitae, dated and signed;
3. Copy of the Masters certificate;
4. declaration of honor;
5. other supporting documents deemed relevant.
Applications should be sent by e-mail to Doctor José D. Gouveia (gouveia@ua.pt), within the timeframe of the call.
13. Form of publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through an ordered list posted on the University's website.
14. Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 30/04/2025 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
