Job Description This is an opportunity to join one of the most ambitious software product development teams working in Earth Observation in Portugal.

The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience and the drive to innovate on various aspects of geospatial solutions, working with data scientists and data engineers.
Senior Geospatial Engineers and PhDs with relevant research experience are also welcome to apply.
As a member of our Space - R&D team you may be asked to: Prototype, build and help deploy AI and remote sensing technology to create earth observation products; Evaluate, select, and employ advanced statistical and modeling procedures to obtain actionable insights and cross-validating models to ensure their generalization; Potentially act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the product development process; Continuously formulate and suggest improvements to the geospatial components of every product; Plan and develop collaborative research projects or test campaigns that help validate the product; Work with Product Managers to help define and implement and R&D roadmap that boosts product development; Work with the Space - Software and Applications teams to handover successfully developed models, algorithms, or prototypes, so that they can be scaled up; Track and leverage innovations described in science papers or from competitor commercial applications; Leverage open source and data resources to develop and implement new solutions and algorithms for specific EO applications; Produce and disseminate technical white papers that detail the successes of the product/projects use cases.
Qualifications Master degree in Computer / Data Science or Geospatial Engineering with remote sensing experience (or relevant technical field with similar experience).
PhD is a plus; Experience with GIS software (e.g.
QGIS) and GIS packages (e.g.
GDAL); At least 3 years of practice developing and deploying AI/ML models; Proficiency in Python/R and corresponding AI/ML libraries; Knowledge in unsupervised, supervised, semi-supervised and transfer-learning techniques; Capacity to foster a healthy, stimulating work environment that frequently harnesses teamwork; Ability to work autonomously, cooperate and align with the overall team's objectives.
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will be highly considered: Experience with land use land cover mapping Experience with carbon estimation using remote sensing Experience processing forestry-related earth observation data Experience in developing security or defence-related earth observation applications Experience in automated ground-truth labelling for earth observation applications SAR, InSAR, PolSAR data processing Experience with computer vision topics such as image recognition, object detection, segmentation or pattern recognition.
