Offer Description
Scientific area: Mechanical Engineering
Work plan: Development of innovative bonding methods for aluminium components.
1. Duration and Terms:
Duration of 3 months, starting in April 2025, potentially renewable up to the extent permitted by the relevant regulations. The granting of the scholarships does not generate or entitle a legal-labour relationship, it is exercised under an exclusive dedication regime, and the Scholarship holder is granted the Scholarship Holder Status, in accordance with the Regulation for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., both in their current wording.
2. Activity objective:
Development and implementation of innovative bonding methods for aluminium components.
Thus, the main topics are:
1. Identification of an aluminium product and changing the bonding method to adhesive bonds.
2. Joint design, optimisation and experimental validation.
3. Implementation of the bonding process in a factory environment.
4. Writing scientific content (articles, reports, presentations, etc.).
3. Scientific supervision:
Prof. Eduardo Marques. The work will be carried out in INEGI facilities in Porto, Portugal.
4. Admission requirements:
Students enrolled in a higher professional technical course, an undergraduate program, an integrated master's program, or a master's program, aiming to start their scientific education by participating in R&D projects to be developed in national institutions.
5. Academic Qualifications:
Students attending a Mechanical Engineering course.
The following are preferential conditions for assessing candidates:
1. Basic knowledge of characterising and testing materials and joints.
2. Basic knowledge of adhesive bonding.
3. Basic knowledge of casting techniques.
4. Good knowledge of numerical modelling using Abaqus software.
5. Good knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
6. Good knowledge of programming, using Matlab software.
6. Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries shall be registered by a Portuguese institution, according to the DL 66/2018, of August 16th, and the Ordinance nr. 33/2019, of January 25th. It is mandatory to present the certificate to sign the contract. More information is available on: here.
Voluntary Social Security reimbursement, corresponding to the 1st level of the contributory base (for scholarships lasting 6 months or more); Personal Accident Insurance.
Research Fellow Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of August 18th, in the current wording published by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (Regulation No. 950 / 2019 of 16 December here).
10. Selection methods/criteria:
Mechanical engineering student - 30%.
Average of concluded CUs - 20%.
Experience in the subject of the work program - 50%.

Applications must include the following documents:
1. Motivation letter, stating the adequacy of the curriculum to the position.
2. Qualifications certificate; if possible, the qualifications certificate should be accompanied by the marks obtained in all courses taken.
