Overview: The Diéguez research group is focused on the development of technologies for the understanding and diagnosis of diseases in close collaboration with the clinic towards the realization of precision medicine. For this, we focus on the development of tools and solutions based on microfluidics, biosensors, and nanotechnology. The selected candidate will be working on the SMARTPACK project.
Job Duties:
* Design and fabricate microfluidic devices;
* Operate lab-on-a-chip devices for point-of-care food safety testing;
* Microbiological cell culture;
* Develop and test integrated biosensors (e.g., colorimetric and others);
* Supervise and mentor Master students and/or junior researchers;
* Disseminate scientific results in high-quality journals and by participating in national and international conferences;
* Project reporting;
* Contribute to overall group sustainability.
Mandatory Qualifications:
Education:
* PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, Bio-Engineering, Physics, or related.
Experience and Technical Skills:
* Experience in the design, fabrication, and operation of microfluidic/lab-on-a-chip/µTAS devices;
* Experience in the development of colorimetric assays;
* Experience in working with and culturing pathogenic and commensal bacteria;
* Experience in nanoparticle functionalization;
* Experience in standard biological and molecular biology assays.
Other Value Skills:
* Knowledge of standard food industry and food safety legislation will be valued;
* Experience in simple data analysis, statistics, and data curation;
* Project reports will be in Portuguese and thus knowledge of the language will be valued.
