IV - Work Plan / Goals to be achievedTitle: Develop and implement compressed format for system data
Description: Predicting failures requires the processing of a high volume of data about the system. The files in binary format that contain this data often reach tens of gigabytes, which creates the need for a compressed data format that significantly reduces the space occupied, without compromising performance.
The objective of this scholarship is to develop one or more compressed formats specific to the type of data used, capable of considerably reducing the size occupied by the data, without its processing becoming computationally expensive. This scholarship is aimed at a student who is confident in their command of the C language and who wants to improve their knowledge of the language and compression algorithms.
Work Plan:M1: Study of the data format of the xentrace and sysstat tools;M2: Study of an existing solution for compressing data generated by xentrace;M3: Study of existing compression algorithms;M4: Development of an implementation for data generated with xentrace;M5: Development of an implementation for data generated with sysstat.V - Initial grant durationThree (3) months.
