ROLE SUMMARY:
St. Peter's International School is a leading educational institution in Portugal, providing high-quality education from Early Years to Secondary School. To join our team for an immediate start, we are looking for a talented and dedicated Librarian. The Librarian will be responsible for managing the school library, creating an engaging and welcoming environment for learning and research. They will play a key role in supporting the school community by promoting a love for reading and developing research and critical thinking skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Library Management:
1. Manage student behaviour in the library.
2. Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library, including cataloguing, shelving, and organising materials.
3. Maintain an up-to-date and well-organised collection of books, periodicals, digital resources, and multimedia materials.
4. Enforce library policies and procedures to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all users.
Collection Development:
1. Assess the needs and interests of students and staff to curate a diverse and relevant library collection within budget constraints.
2. Stay current with educational trends and emerging technologies to enhance the library's resources.
3. Regularly remove outdated or irrelevant materials to maintain a fresh and valuable collection.
Reader Services:
1. Collaborate with leaders and teachers in both sections to raise the profile of reading and to plan for and implement whole school reading experiences like World Book Day.
2. Promote a love for reading by organising book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits.
3. Assist students in selecting age-appropriate reading materials based on their interests and reading levels.
4. Create displays and promotional materials to highlight library resources and encourage usage.
5. Ensure the library is a quiet and welcoming place for students studying and for a range of students during break and lunchtimes.
Collaboration and Outreach:
1. Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver instruction that aligns with classroom objectives.
2. Actively engage with the school community by participating in school events, parent-teacher meetings, and faculty meetings.
3. Work with parents who can support the library and its activities.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Skills & Knowledge:
1. Fluency in English and Portuguese.
2. Excellent library management skills, including cataloguing, classification, and collection development.
3. Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature.
4. Excellent research and information literacy skills.
5. Ability to use a variety of library technologies and digital resources.
6. Effective communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
7. Ability to manage student behaviour and create a positive learning environment.
8. A passion for reading and a commitment to promoting literacy.
9. Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
10. The ability to work independently and take initiative.
11. A commitment to fostering a love of learning and intellectual curiosity in students.
12. A commitment to providing inclusive and equitable access to library resources.
13. A strong work ethic and a commitment to continuous professional development.

17. A recognised qualification in Librarianship or Information Science.
18. Experience working in an international school environment.
19. Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
