BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a "dynamic, results driven" individual to join as Production Manager at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.
Key responsibilities
Plan, schedule, facilitate and supervise the daily activities of the production team(s), ensuring that quality, safety, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery goals are met.
Direct and supervise the activities associated with the provision of global quality and technical support of manufacturing engineering in the areas of production, which meet or exceed customer expectations.
Identify potential improvements (together with production teams) that reduce COPQ costs annually, improve quality, and maximize customer satisfaction.
Ensure the maximum safety, quality, capacity, and use of equipment and manufacturing/processing processes.
Promote continuous research and implementation of "Best Practice" in manufacturing/processing methods and processes.
Participate in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan for Production Engineering.
Coordinate with other functional managers in order to plan and implement manufacturing programs.
Facilitate the introduction of new products and/or modifications to current products.
Review and reference processing and manufacturing equipment and tools.
Ensure that they develop, use, and maintain effective control and documentation systems.
Assist the Chief Operating Officer in recommending, and justifying, the capital plan.
Coordinate the implementation of new equipment and processes, together with the manufacturing teams (line equipment and AR expenses).
Ability to monitor and establish a production schedule that meets the requirements defined in existing programs and designed by customers.
Develop and present presentations to customers, employees, and teams.
Supervise employees: hiring, development, performance management, and succession planning processes.
Participate in problem-solving activities (example: 8D's, 6M's, and 5W's) related to safety and quality matters.
Manage daily production inventory including continuous improvement plan.
Manage workforce efficiency including continuous improvement plan.
Actively participate in the identification and implementation of scrap and rework reduction plans.
Establish continuous improvement plans that lead to a more efficient organization.
Facilitate efficient and open communication within the department and with other departments in the organization.
Ensure the respect and compliance with the safety and cleanliness rules of the workstation.
Continuously ensure the improvement of health, safety, and environmental conditions.
Participate in the definition, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's policies.
Participate in the definition of objectives of the Environmental Management Policy, Health and Safety at Work.
Actively participate in the continuous improvement of the Environmental Management Policy, Health and Safety at Work.
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety at work standards, policies, and practices in accordance with their level of responsibility.

Education & Experience
Degree in Engineering or in a related technical area.
3-5 years of professional engineering experience.
Professional career characterized by successfully developed product launches/programs, or equivalent.
Available to travel with minimal notification in urgent situations.
Very good knowledge of quality tools and Lean methods.
Very good knowledge of Industry 4.0 technology.
Very good knowledge in leading and developing production teams.
Strong supervisory training and skills.
Ability to train a production team.
Solid and versatile knowledge, skills, and capabilities of manufacturing processes and quality assurance.
Skills in the following domains: DOE, GD&T, FMEA, SPC, Time and Motion Analysis, Financial and Cost Analysis, and Value Analysis.
A Production Engineer, expert in a functional area such as manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, electrical, or mold engineering.
Solid knowledge of quality systems and manufacturing (including automation).
Operational knowledge of the budgeting process.
Experience in successfully developed project launches.
Solid skills in project management, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
Solid problem-solving skills.
Solid knowledge of effective health, safety, and ergonomics practices and concepts.
Solid knowledge of automotive industry standards and its customers.
Solid knowledge of visual industry concepts.
Fluent in Portuguese.
Fluent in English.
Third language is an advantage.
