ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE AWARD OF A RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

A call for applications is now open for the attribution of 1 grant of Research Fellowship for a Bachelor degree holder within the scope of the R&D project, of Center for Microelectromechanical Systems (CMEMS-UMinho), “INTEGRATOR: Pain and physical limitations perception for human-sensitive Intelligent collaborative robotics”, ref: 2022.15668.MIT, financed by national funds through the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT).
Scientific Area: Biomedical Engineering
Recipient category: Students enrolled on a master's degree/ integrated master's degree or non-degree course in the area or area related to that requested in the notice.
Requirement for granting the fellowship:
1. The applicants may apply without prior registration in the course for which the fellowship is open.
2. Only fellowships whose selected applicants present a valid proof of enrollment in a degree course or non-academic degree course will be contracted, according to the type of the fellowship.
3. Enrollment in non-certified courses (without curricular units) will not be considered as proof of enrollment.
Candidates profile:
Mandatory Requirements:
1. Candidates must have, at the date of application, a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering.
2. Proof of academic qualifications completed at the deadline for applications is required.
Preferred requirements: Degree in the area of biomedical engineering field of medical electronics, with knowledge in the area of robotics. Demonstrated experience in designing experiments and protocols, in the analysis of biomechanical data, and in sensor systems such as Movella, sEMG, and ECG.
Workplan and objectives to be achieved: The main objective of this work plan is to collect data from the target population, divided into the following phases:
1. Acquisition of experimental data from the target population;
2. Support during the validation of the RL-based controller for pain management and ergonomics;
3. Analysis of the obtained data.
The scholarship holder will contribute to the preparation of a report with the results obtained.
Fellowship duration: The grant will take place for a period of 3 months, with a provisional starting date in January 2025.
Amount of the research grant: The value stipend (Monthly Maintenance Allowance) is 990,98€ per month.
Selection panel: The selection panel is composed of the following members:
1. Chairman: Doctor Graça Maria Henriques Minas (Associate Professor with habilitation from University of Minho)
2. Effective members: Doctor Luís Miguel Valente Gonçalves (Associate Professor of University of Minho), Doctor Nuno Miguel Ferrete Ribeiro (Doctorate Researcher from Centro de Microssistemas Eletromecânicos of University of Minho).
3. Substitute Members: Doctor José Augusto Afonso (Auxiliar Professor from industrial Electronics Department of University of Minho), Doctor Alexandre Manuel Teixeira Barros Ferreira Silva (Auxiliar Professor from industrial Electronics Department of University of Minho).
Criteria and procedures for applications assessment and selection: The applications assessment will focus on the candidate's Merit, following evaluation criteria, valued on a scale of 1 to 5 values:
1. Academic path (40% weighting)
2. Personal curriculum (50% weighting)
3. Motivation letter (10% weighting)
If none of the candidates demonstrate to have a suitable profile for the execution of the work plan, the Jury is entitled to close this call without selecting a candidate.
