We are looking for an Assistant Director of Finance to join our pre-opening team at Andaz Lisbon.
Expected to open in Mid-End 2025, Andaz Lisbon will offer guests an exciting new luxury lifestyle hotel in the Portuguese capital. It will represent a key milestone in Hyatt’s continued brand growth in Southern Europe. Andaz Lisbon is set to become the second Hyatt-branded hotel in Lisbon. Located in the center of Lisbon’s bustling Baixa district along the main pedestrian road, Rua Augusta, the hotel will be comprised of five separate buildings, including the former offices of one of the major banks in Portugal, Banco Português de Investimento (BPI). This unique Urban Resort in the city center will allow guests to fully embrace the locale and experience authentic Lisbon.
About the role
The Assistant Director of Finance will assist the Director of Finance in the efficient running of the Accounting and Procurement department with the following tasks:
1. All activities related to budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss reporting, and account reconciliation for operating and balance sheet accounts for our hotel location.
2. Preparation and regular update of the Finance Departmental Budget, in close cooperation with the Director of Finance, ensuring targets are met and costs are effectively controlled.
3. Ensure that Departmental Operational Budget is strictly adhered to.
4. Monitor all costs and recommend measures to control them. Establish an integrated cost management plan through product lining, minimal inventories, joint procurement with sister hotels, and Delivery on Demand where possible and cost-effective.
5. Oversee all accounting activities related to income auditing, cashiering, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable collection, tax compliance, payroll, and month-end processing. Ensuring financial controls, accurate reporting, and profitability is essential.
6. This position is a management level position and is expected to work as much of each workday as is necessary to complete job responsibilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications - External
1. Possess a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Finance/Accounting and/or equivalent certifications or CA.
2. Experience as a Finance Director or Manager, and/or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a finance leadership position. 3+ years of progressive career growth in hotel finance (or a similar industry).
3. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, operational cost controls, marginalizing profit opportunities, and loss reporting and balancing ledgers for operating and balance sheet accounts. Cash Flow management and reporting.
4. Aptitude for performing numerical analysis of data and formulating conclusions and/or solutions.
5. Ability to use logic to define a problem, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret information, and deal with abstract variables for unique or unfamiliar situations.
6. Proven leadership and coaching skills with a track record of developing a highly motivated and cross-trained group of progressive accounting professionals.
7. Ability to clearly and concisely present technical financial and legal subjects, including fiscalization, local tax laws, and within USALI and Portuguese Financial treatment of accounting systems.
8. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to conduct effective group meetings and presentations.
9. Ability to comprehend and use technical or professional language, either written or spoken, to communicate complex ideas.
10. Superior Computer skills: Microsoft Office, POS/PMS systems, and the ability to create, maintain, and analyze data in Excel spreadsheets.
11. Supervises and leads the professional development of a dynamic finance team.
12. Demonstrate Leadership and Strategic Decision Making. A Team player with problem-solving and foresight skills.
13. Pre-Opening Experience is an advantage.
