UNU-EGOV
The United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV), based in the city of Guimarães, north of Portugal, supports the Member States of the United Nations in transforming governance mechanisms and building effective governance capabilities through strategic applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to contribute to sustainable development, social inclusion, and active citizenship.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of UNU-EGOV, the Communications Design Associate will be responsible for the following tasks:
* Creative development and visual identity
• Conduct the creative development, design, and execution of a large variety of designed products in line with the visual identity and overall communication objectives of UNU-EGOV.
• Contribute to the evolution of the brand and visual identity of UNU-EGOV and its activities and projects.
• Ensure that the branded products meet quality, consistency, and visual identity guidelines.
* Communication Design
• Serve as liaison for all communication design aspects of research, publication, events, and other UNU-EGOV activities.
• Participate in meetings with the communication team, management, and researchers to discuss design projects, including substantive content, communication objectives, and distribution channels.
• Ensure that all visual representations, including video and photos, promote the UNU core values of inclusion.
* Editorial Design
• Develop and maintain production templates for publications such as policy briefs, books, reports, etc.
• Layout and typeset publications for print and digital.
• Develop charts, tables, and figures based on complex scientific data.
• Conduct print management and quality control of external printing services as required.
* Digital Design
• Develop and design innovative visual products, such as infographics, to convey key messages effectively.
• Create templates for newsletters, press releases, and other electronic communication materials.
• Collaborate with the communication team to develop impactful visuals for social media channels and the UNU-EGOV websites.
* Liaison with external providers
• Identify suitable external agencies and freelance service providers in branding, design, video production, and animation.
• Provide technical evaluation of vendor proposals and conduct quality-control checks on external design/video/photo work commissioned by UNU-EGOV.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

1) Education and certification
• Communication Design, Design Management, Media Design, Visual Communication, or related field.
2) Required skills and experience
Required
• Secondary education with 5 years of experience, a bachelor’s degree with 3 years, or a master’s degree with one year of professional experience as a communications or graphic designer.
• Professional knowledge and proven track record in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
Desirable
• Ability to interact professionally with colleagues from project initiation to completion.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to develop and apply branding guidelines consistently.
• Experience in identifying and managing external vendors in design, photo, and video is a strong asset.
• Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.
3) Language Requirements:
* Fluency in English is required.
* Knowledge of Portuguese or another UN official working language is an asset.
Remuneration
The successful candidate will be employed under a PSA contract. UNU offers an attractive compensation package, including an annual net salary of EUR 22020 to EUR 26412, commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave and a health insurance scheme.
Duration of contract
The initial contract duration is 1 year, with the possibility for renewal subject to requirements and satisfactory work performance.
